Delta Park to host a national dog walk in support of International Guide Dog Day

BLAIRGOWRIE - Your dog can be a hero too!

Dogs will once again wag their tails excitedly with their tongues lolling out while taking a walk in support of the SA Guide Dogs Association.

Taking place on 25 March at Delta Park, the national walk aims to unite dogs of all shapes and sizes across the country in celebration of the upcoming International Guide Dogs Day.

It is the only event of its kind where the dogs are the heroes and those attending will provide much-needed funds and awareness for guide dogs by purchasing a ticket to the event.

According to the association, it costs in excess of R100 000 to breed, raise and train a working dog.

The new owner of the guide or service dog pays R5 for their dog and makes a contribution of R200 towards their training and all equipment, thus not restricting anyone who needs a guide dog from having one.

Without community support, the association wouldn’t be able to continue offering vital services to differently-abled individuals.

As a token of appreciation for support in changing the lives of those living with sight loss, every dog will receive a cape - an accessory a hero simply can’t be without, as well as a special doggy certificate.

Participants are encouraged to invite their friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them or join the national walk.

The event will take place from 7am to 10am.
